Tips for using AI

Artificial intelligence, or AI, can be a great tool to help your small business, startup or non-profit. The most well known AI tools are ChatGPT from OpenAI, Gemini from Google and Llama from Meta.

Some of the tasks AI can help you with include:

Here are some tips for safe AI usage.

1. Be careful about giving AI sensitive data. 

When you enter data in AI it is sent to another company. As a small business, startup and non-profit you have a responsibility to protect personally identifiable information like name, address, email and phone number as well as payment information like credit card numbers. Avoid giving this information to any AI tool unless you have signed an agreement with them stating they will protect it.

2. Review AI output before using.

AI is not perfect. It "learns" from content created by people. This content will include errors, flaws and biases.  Writing created by AI can also sound artificial. Before using output from AI it is important that a human reviews it to make sure it is accurate and correct.
